Assessment first, twelve live sessions, a closing review
Every AngerManaged program follows the same structure: a clinical assessment with the director, weekly live sessions on Zoom, and an individual closing review before the certificate is signed. Program length and track are assigned at assessment, in writing.
The assessment
The assessment is a clinical evaluation, performed by the CAMS-II director personally. It is the basis for every placement decision in the program, and it is documented the same way for every participant.
Before the session, you complete a structured intake packet and a structured anger pretest online, so the assessment time is spent on clinical judgment, not paperwork.
Dr. Karel Winner, DNP, PMHNP-BC, CAMS-II, takes a biopsychosocial history, reviews your pretest results with you, and screens for risk and for issues outside the program scope.
You are assigned to a track and a program length (8, 12, 26, or 52 hours) in writing. Your enrollment letter is provided within one business day of the assessment.
The program ends with a post test and an individual closing review with the director, where your results, attendance record, and completion are reviewed before the certificate is signed.
The private clinical track assessment is 60 minutes and is also completed by the director. Full director credentials are on the Clinical Director page.
The five tracks
1. Core Group Program
For court ordered, employer mandated, and self referred adults whose need is education and skill building. Twelve weekly 60 minute group sessions, camera on, between the director assessment and the closing review.
Program lengths: 8, 12, 26, and 52 hours, built from the same curriculum. The 12 hour core is the standard program.
2. Private Education Track
The same twelve sessions delivered one to one, for participants who cannot fit a group schedule or need privacy, and who the assessment clears as low risk and education appropriate.
This track is private anger management education. It is not therapy, counseling, or clinical treatment, and the enrollment agreement says so in plain words.
3. Private Clinical Track
One to one clinical anger management with the director, Dr. Karel Winner. For clients with clinical complexity, high conflict presentations, executive and professional privacy needs, and participants age 17.
Capacity in this track is deliberately small, so it never crowds out the group program.
4. Parent and Caregiver Cohort
Eight weekly 60 minute group sessions on anger and stress for parents and caregivers, including families raising children with disabilities.
This cohort is self referred education and coaching. It is not sold as a court program.
5. Employer and School Workshops
One two hour live online workshop on anger, escalation, and de-escalation at work, for up to 20 staff. Sold to employers, schools, and agencies. Every workshop ends with the referral path into the group program for any employee who is later mandated to complete one.
Who does what
The director
Dr. Karel Winner, DNP, PMHNP-BC, CAMS-II, is the clinical director: a doctorally prepared Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, certified in anger management through the National Anger Management Association at its clinical tier. He completes every individual assessment, assigns the track and program length, makes every risk decision, supervises the program each week, completes every closing review, and signs every report and certificate. See the Clinical Director page for his full credentials.
The educator
Group and private education sessions are led by an educator working under the director supervision. The educator teaches the curriculum, leads skills practice, and tracks attendance and homework. Education sessions are education and coaching, never therapy or counseling, and any risk issue is raised to the director the same day.
The structured 12 session curriculum
Every cohort works through the same twelve sessions in the same order. Anger log homework is reviewed at the start of every session from session 2 on. Longer programs repeat the cycle at applied depth, with incident labs from the anger log, two extra individual check ins per cycle, and a refreshed anger control plan at each cycle end.
- 1What anger is. Anger as a normal emotion, healthy versus harmful expression, the anger cycle, and what anger does in the body and brain. The anger log is introduced.
- 2Triggers and cues. External triggers, internal cues in the body, and trigger thoughts. Each participant maps a personal trigger profile from the log.
- 3Stopping an episode. The escalation scale, time out done correctly, exit and re entry, and strategies for the first ten minutes of an episode.
- 4Stress management and relaxation. The stress and anger link, sleep, breathing and physiological downshifting, and daily stress load reduction.
- 5Thinking errors that feed anger. Blaming, mind reading, labeling, and all or nothing thinking, caught in the log.
- 6Cognitive restructuring. Replacing distorted thoughts, examining consequences before acting, and choosing the response instead of the reaction.
- 7Communication and assertiveness. Aggressive, passive, and assertive styles. Stating needs and limits without attack.
- 8Listening and repair. Listening, empathy, and perspective taking. Repair after conflict.
- 9Emotional intelligence, part 1. Self awareness and self management: naming the emotion early enough to steer it.
- 10Emotional intelligence, part 2. Social awareness and relationship management, conflict resolution, and negotiation at home and at work.
- 11Relapse prevention. High risk situations, early warning signs, and the personal anger control plan drafted in the session.
- 12Maintenance and growth. Post test, plan review, what happens after the program, and when to come back or seek more help.
Attendance and participation rules

Who the program serves
Adults 18 and older in group programs. Participants age 17 are served in the private clinical track only. Batterer intervention and domestic violence specific orders are not served by this program and are referred out at assessment. Anger management is separate from medication management, and completing this program never requires a separate clinical evaluation.
